About the HitPredictor Artist Chart
The HitPredictor Artist Chart is a gauge of artist popularity, above and beyond song charts. Artist scores are affected by every aspect of an artist's career. Marketing, airplay, retail, print media, touring, TV appearances, and rumor all have an impact on chart performance.

HitPredictor Artist Chart Data is collected with the same strict attention to detail as all other HitPredictor research. A list of several hundred artists is compiled based on airplay and sales. The artists are rated by thousands of carefully screened music fans aged 13-50. Results are compiled weekly and monthly. The chart is based on a 100 point calculation that takes into account each artist's popularity and buzz, among the entire music listening population. JUNE 2008
First, a brief explanation of the HitPredictor Artist Chart:

In early 2006 we created a monthly overall artist chart, which included promosquad HitPredictor listeners from all formats who rate over 350 artists every month. These artists are a combination of the biggest artists over the past 5 years from all formats along with the hottest new artists that have enjoyed significant success on the charts. Each artist is rated on a 100 point scale, and the resulting scores are averaged across the major formats for the main overall Artist Chart included here. In addition to the overall chart, we also break out the Artist chart out by format every month.

PINK...a HitPredictor Artist Chart success story! - Guy Zapoleon

The biggest story we've seen recently is the amazing return to success for Pink. Pink was struggling with releases from her new CD after several misses over the past few CD's. Programmers weren't adding the great new Pink song "U + Ur Hand" because they had a lack of confidence in the hit making ability of Pink herself. However all of us at Promosquad HitPredictor noticed a very important thing: Pink was scoring Top 10 among 500 of the biggest artists of any format consistantly every single month since we started the Artist Chart, even before this CD was released. We also noticed that "U + Ur Hand" and the previous single "Who Knew" both were #1 songs all over the world...We gave this information to Joe Riccitelli at Zomba, used the Artist Chart information in Zomba's campaign to break "U + Ur Hand", and the information that Pink was Top 10 or close to it every month in our Artist Chart began to change programmers' minds about the artist and this great song. One by one the radio station dominos fell until Pink was added everywhere, then nature took its course and this great song reached #1.

Zomba's Joe Riccitelli had this to offer:

"HitPredictor's Artist Chart was a valuable tool in breaking "U + Ur Hand" at radio. The battle we were fighting at the time was more about PINK'S viability for the Top 40 format. Most Program Directors across the country were quick to judge a few mid chart singles in a row by Pink to mean she wasn't a factor to the format.

We used the Hit Predictor artist charts to show she was still a top 10 artist even during the rebuilding process. In a funny way that type of positive reinforcement helped our promotion team fight through the challenges we faced.

The bottom line became just because PINK had a few mid-chart records in a row had nothing to do with what the general top 40 audience felt about her as an artist. On the contrary she had better artist scores then actual artists with top 5 records over the last year."

Here are the highlights of the Promosquad HitPredictor Artist Chart for JUNE 2008

  • Linkin Park finally powers its way to #1 for the very first time after Maroon 5’s 9th months at #1. All this from their recent success of multiple singles at Pop Radio and Modern Rock from their double platinum CD Minutes to Midnight propels the band to the Top of the Hitpredictor’s June Artist Chart.
  • OneRepublic has another Top 10 song with Stop & Stare which follows the #1 duet with Timbaland “Apologize “ The band debuts this month at #46 on the chart
  • Natasha Bedingfield was in her brother Daniel’s shadow during the first part of the decade but 4 years ago exploded on the scene with her worldwide #1 song in Unwritten giving her and Daniel the distinction of being the only siblings to ever have #1 songs on the UK charts. This years Top 10 success with her single Pocketful Of Sunshine, as well as an appearance on American Idol in May gives Natasha the boost she needed to debut on the Artist Chart at #48 this month
